 Business Overview for Atlanta

Atlanta and its metro area are thriving with large companies employing thousands of people in the area.  Atlanta is a popular place for companies and businesses to set up camp for several reasons.  First off, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is one of the busiest in the world, allowing for a lot of business travel in and out of the city.  Also, Georgia has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the country of around 6%, which is a huge draw for large and small businesses alike.

Atlanta is home to many large companies, such as Delta Airlines Inc, which has its headquarters in Atlanta.  This company employs thousands in the area, from jobs working directly on the planes, to jobs that focus more on the business aspects of the airline, such as financial and business analysts.  In fact, over the next 3 years, Delta plans on adding thousands more employees in various positions.

Another large company that is headquartered in Atlanta is Home Depot.  With stores all over the country, this home improvement store, as of the end of 2016, was the biggest company in Georgia, based on revenue. By 2018, Home Depot as a whole was estimated to be making around $100 billion in revenue.

In addition to Home Depot and Delta Airlines, another Fortune 500 company that has chosen Atlanta as its headquarters is the United Parcel Service, or UPS, which are the letters most of us know and recognize the company by.  UPS is led by CEO David P. Abney, who has been in the lead there since 2014.  UPS is a popular company to work for as it allows for full, part time work, as well as seasonal work opportunities as delivery and parcel drivers. UPS has hundreds of jobs in Atlanta for other areas of the company as well such as Technology Manager, Forecast Analyst, Data Scientist and much more.

In 2019, the job market is expected to stay strong.  It is estimated that around 68,000 new jobs will become available over the course of the year in various industries.  It is also important to note that the unemployment rate in Atlanta is very low, around 3%.  Another newsworthy piece is that a deal for a new downtown development that will include hotels, retail, office towers, residences and more was recently approved by the city.  This deal is estimated to be around $5 billion, with money coming from subsidies, investments and more.
