Steps to becoming a real estate agent:

1. Complete your required education and Georgia salesperson exam prep.

Education and exam preparation for real estate salespeople can be performed online or in person. The majority of in-person courses last roughly two weeks, while online courses (75 hours) can be finished much faster. Real Estate Express is the pre-licensing training that we suggest to all of our agents. They are inexpensive and have a very high pass rate.

In addition to that they offer Georgia Broker courses and continuing education courses for Georgia Real Estate agents.

2. Pass a background check

You must receive a criminal history report from the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC). Any local sheriff’s office or police department can provide you with this report. The report can cost up to $25 and is good for 60 days after it is issued. Prior to earning a license, you must bring this to the AMP testing center.

3. Complete your lawful presence affidavit and take the Georgia Salesperson

Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc., the exam provider, requires you to register and pass the salesperson’s exam (AMP). You must pass the exam and pay the $115 examination cost. On the GREC website, you can learn more about the exam. You must bring your Lawful Presence Notarized Affidavit as well as a “safe and reliable document” to the exam. Visit the AMP website to book your exam and obtain a copy of the needed affidavit.

4. Purchase your license (Inactive or Active).

You are able to get your license on the same day you pass the examination at the AMP center if your application to sit for the examination has been authorized and you have successfully passed the examination. If you get your license within 90 days of taking the exam, it will cost you $170.00. If you get your license between 90 and 12 months, the charge goes up to $340.00. You must retake the examination to qualify for licensing if you do not apply for your license within 12 months. Bring your sponsored broker statement if you already know whose real estate agency you’ll be working with. If you don’t know, you can pay the cost and have your license turned off.

5. Find a real estate agency to work for.

When looking for the perfect agency to work for, there are many factors to consider. You should interview several people and ask them some of the following questions:

  1. How much do you charge each month?

2. What percentage of my commission will you take?

3. Will I be able to form my own team in the future?

4. Will I be able to receive training from experienced agents?

Finally, more important than fees and commissions is having a mentor who responds swiftly to your questions and assists you in learning. If you have any additional questions or would like to join our team, please contact us at
